Rampage Jackson Is the Great Communicator

Rampage Jackson is living proof that famous people get to do things you don't. Just six and half months after leading police on a bizarre chase through Los Angeles, Jackson is not only back fighting in the UFC, he's headed toward a title shot against Rashad Evans after a nasty victory by decision at UFC 96 this weekend. Rumors of his mental breakdown after his loss to Forrest Griffin were therefore inaccurate; it's just that Jackson needed to blow off some steam by taking a huge truck with his name on the side and running into a few cars in traffic, that's all. (Actually, that sounds really fun. I'd do it if I could, and so would you, provided you weren't going to hurt anyone you didn't like.)

Rampage's return to title shot status is welcome, because no one in UFC takes a mike like Rampage, who shows genuine Memphisian Three 6 Mafia mike skills against Rashad Evans in the post-fight jaw-jab session. Warning: This clip contains naughty language by Evans, and excessively awesome machismo by Rampage. You may be compelled to put a co-worker in an arm bar and then address the office while holding a stapler as a mike after watching this:

"All I gotta say: There's gonna be some more black on black crime," may be one of the least decisive taunts in UFC history, since both Evans and Jackson are African-American, and could apply no matter what happens in this fight. Whatever, a good mike man doesn't worry about the logic. Now give that stapler back to your co-worker, and tell her she fought a good fight.

Nice to see MMA getting some attention here.

I was at UFC 96 (along with fellow Sporting News bloggers wilcoxon and ohiostate1016) as well as attending the Q&A session the day before with Matt Hughes and the weigh-ins.  It was a truly great experience.  The crowd was really into the Rampage/Jardine fight, as well as the mic work between Rampage and Evans (so much so, that I really couldn’t even hear what was said).

Great to see some MMA love on here.  As ModMind said I was at UFC96!  Great night of fights and one of my favorite lines is the "black on black crime" which is a homage to Rampage’s past in Japan when he originally used the line before he fought Kevin Randleman.

I was at UFC 96 too!

Too bad Rampage will have to wait to get his belt back, because he needs surgery and can’t fight in May (Evans will be fighting undefeated contender Lyoto Machida).

Either way, I can’t wait to see this fight (if Evans beats Machida, that is) because I really think that it would be a great fight. Perhaps we’ll finally get to see it in October or something.

I’m just glad to actaully see MMA getting some LOVE. Props Spencer.
