Attention Brilliant People of the World: Gymnast Shawn Johnson is Very Much Alive

Gymnast Shawn Johnson is not dead. Shawn Johnson, the gymnast, is not dead. Shawn Johnson is not dead, but she is still a gymnast.

With that established, I ask the question: who in 2009 still hasn't heard of The Onion? Better still: who, after watching a report that claims gymnasts are routinely put down for their injuries by doctors, would assume this was not obvious satire? You're out there, and don't deny you are, so I'll say it again: THIS IS SATIRE AND DO NOT ATTACK THE PERSON YOU SEE IN THE MIRROR. They are a reflection of the light from the sun, and not real and determined to make fun of you by doing exactly what you do in the mirror no matter how fast you do it.

Here's the piece. It's horrible, tasteless, and very funny.

Though it was up there for a while, "Shawn Johnson Dead" has slipped out of Google's top 100 trends for the moment. (Though "Jamaican bobsled team" and "Stacy Keach" are in there, proving that not only are people bored, but they're esoterically bored.) Johnson's parents called the piece "rude" and "over the top," which they could have just said by saying it was a piece in The Onion. So please, two things in closing: first, silica gel is very dangerous. Do not eat it. That is what is says on the package, and they mean it, no matter how much they may look like delicious translucent jellybeans. Second, you may resume searching the internet for "Erin Andrews College World Series" on your boss's dime, you street-fighting, chick-getting internet god, you.

Wake me up when she’s 18. Then I’ll care.

next thing you’re going to tell me is that the Lebron James puppet didn’t off himself in his bathtub either… or that Patrick Ewing wasn’t teaching Dwight Howard how to lose when it matters… my world is rocked… this is irresponsible journalism, IMO

I can’t believe that there are people in the world that would get this bored. Total waste of 2 minutes that I will never see again. Also, these morons get paid for crap like this. Go figure.

It’s the Onion, this is what they do, and they make a lot of money off of it. Nobody is forcing you to read/watch their material. This country needs to pull the stick out of its a*s. Oh, and by the way, if you can get over the absolutely horrifying material (sarcasm) you can usually find a good point in Onion articles. This one highlights the ridiculousness of parents training their children from birth to be athletes, a la horse racing.

I can’t believe I even have to explain this.

I thought only horses would find this offensive.  Funny piece.
