Shawne Merriman Finds a New Use for Social Media: Scaring Others to Death

The NBA gets a lot of love for all the guys who have embraced social media -- guys like Shaq, Kevin Love and so on -- but the NFL is quickly catching up with some of its guys. Martellus Bennett is often blogged about in this space for his work on Twitter and YouTube. Admittedly I had no idea that the Chargers' Shawne Merriman was such a social media master. He was into MySpace when that was the thing, and he's switched up his game to the world of Facebook and Twitter. (Mashable has a great writeup on Merriman.) He's even on the video sharing site 12seconds, which is where the aforementioned wringing of necks comes in. ↵

↵Oh, I'm sorry. I had to go change my pants. Staring down a mid-workout Shawne Merriman ranks up there with chewing glass and seeing the new Final Destination movie on the list of things I'd rather not have happen to me any time soon. ↵

↵For the record, here is the tweet from Ochocinco that provoked said reaction (and a full conversation that followed). It also provoked a pretty funny rant at the most recent SDTweetup, which you see about four minutes into the video at that link. Even Mashable's Jennifer Van Grove talks some tech samck at Ochocinco for not being able to figure out how to use a web cam (5:30ish mark of the video). ↵

↵

↵I guess the moral of the story we've learned here is that Ochocinco certainly isn't ready for Merriman if he can't even handle Jennifer from Mashable. ↵

↵

↵And no, this post is not a break of my Ochocinco-free summer. It's about Merriman. I have not backed down from my "no following of Ochocinco" on Twitter policy. ↵
