Updated throughout the day with quick takes from staff.
So yeah, this is happening and there's nothing we can do about it.
I tried to keep TSB a Brett Favre-free zone until the absolute last moment I could, and today looks like that day. Despite all the back-and-forth, all the campouts by Rachel Nichols in Hattiesburg and all the posturing by Vikings players and coaches, Favre is reportedly either on his way to or already in Minnesota so he can sign a deal to join the Vikings. This according to WCCO, which is using a "high-level source with the Minnesota Vikings" for its story. ESPN is reporting that the quarterback will sign for $10-12 million.
What's perhaps most galling of all -- and should be the least surprising -- is that Favre couldn't even be straight about this whole situation within the last month. From SI.com:
"I really believe this is it. I truly, truly believe it's over. But if someone calls Nov. 1, who knows?''
Well, we didn't even have to wait until Nov. 1. No, we're sitting here at Aug. 18, not even a full month after that article was published on July 28. Chris Mortensen reports the deal has been done for essentially two months, but everyone has been waiting for Favre to say he's ready. How will that "whenever you're ready!" approach to Favre effect the locker room in Minnesota?
Furthermore, how long will it take for Vikings players to see through this "indecision" for what it really was? The guy is going to be 40 in October and it's not being overly presumptive to say he probably wanted no part of the traditional NFL training camp experience. Maybe some of the younger guys won't get that, but do you think vets like Jared Allen are stupid (funny hats not withstanding) and won't see that? Will they respect a guy like that?
Locker room politics aside, does anyone really think Favre will elevate the Vikings to NFC favorites? How about even the NFC North? Let me give you a quick reminder on how Favre finished the season: The Jets went 1-4. Favre had two TDs and nine picks in those games. He topped a 60-percent completion percentage in just one of those five games.
Favre's legacy was probably going to survive his one-year stint with the Jets, but this offseason is one that much of his base in Green Bay -- and NFL fans at large -- won't let go of for years, if ever.

I knew this would happen. After the last few seasons, I have learned to take anything Mr. Favre says with a grain (or less) of salt. As a die-hard GB Packer fan, I say BRING IT. Brett, just stay retired! Most of us have had enough already. Go Pack Go!!

Perhaps it will work out for Favre. The Vikings are a better team than the Jets were last year.
Perhaps it won’t. Brett has a monumental ego, and has to be the big star on every team. If Brett throws 22 picks again this year, will the Vikings be a better team having shifted carries away from AP? Also, Brett is Mr Ironman, but the past few years he has worn down at the end of the season, last year earlier than in 2007 despite playing in much better weather in New Jersey.
Favre doesn’t know the offense, and nobody knows what the impact on team chemistry will be. By doing this Childress acknowledges that he has to take a huge gamble – that the Vikes are simply not good enough to win without a great QB.
This ends T Jack’s career with the Vikes, I think, after he finally showed something the last half of the season last year. Rosenfels will be the back-up, T Jack at best third-string. He will leave to go somewhere else if the Vikes don’t trade or release him, and could come back to burn Childress & the Viles yet. Because I think he an play in the NFL, and he’s a lot younger than Favre or even Rosenfels
It is hard to say how good the Vikes will be this year. Favre is probably an upgrade on Frerotte, but we can’t be certain what he has left in the tank.

Well lets look at Favre in 2008 vs 2009.
- Now he plays with possibly the best running back in the NFL, which will take considerable pressure off him.
- The Vikings have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.
- The Vikings play a dome, where in never dips below 72 degrees.
- Favre DOES know the west coast offense that the Vikings run, inside and out, perhaps even better than Childress himself.
- Favre was playing injured for his last 5+ games last year, provided he can stay ionjury free, he should play better.
I think it’s a no brainer. Favre is better than T-Jack or Rosenfels, and if Favre falters we have them to fall back on. WIN WIN

Krondek, look at Favre in 2007. Second last game of the year, playing the Bears – Favre had nothing. Incredibly bad game at a critical time – Packers could have had home-field advantage.
He did ok the next week and the first round of the playoffs. Then against the Giants he crapped out again.
Better hope AP can carry him during the biggest games of the year….

Brett Favre used to be my hero in the nineties, but his behavior in the offseason over the last few years has really set him back in my eyes as a hero. But if anybody thinks the Vikings aren’t the favorite to win the NFC North after this type of acquisition is just delirious. And is it really a question if Jared Allen and the rest of the Vikings are going to respect Favre? Uh, duh, he’s a living legend and the best QB on the team by far(TJack and Sage? dumb and dumberer). Jared Allen is going to respect Favre because he’s going to keep the defense off the field. Jared Allen is going to respect Brett Favre because he is a weathered veteran who knows more about the game of football. Jared Allen is going to respect Brett Favre because his coach and the owner dropped everything they had for Brett Favre. Jared Allen is going to respect Brett Favre because Brett Favre deserves everyones respect. And when Jared Allen respects Brett Favre the rest of the Vikings will have to. The Packers disrespected Favre by trying to pay him to retire, and now the Pack are going to lose 2 games this season to Favre and the Vikes. That’s why you don’t disrespect Brett Favre.I wrote Favre a total of 13 times in this article including once in this sentence, and now I’m going to have to hear the name 40,000 more times this season, it’s almost like everyone has to respect the mere repetition of the name.

Anybody up for another 365 day news cycle on the NFL’s ultimate diva? Don’t think this is over at the end of the season, it’ll just come up again.
For the sake of Vikings fans, I hope it works out, but for myself I’m pretty well disgusted, not that "4" cares, he’s said as much today. He’s made it perfectly clear in his statements what he thinks about fans by saying "It’s my legacy" or "don’t watch". Disrespect after being disengenuous, how quaint!
Is he a great player? No question, but his diva antics are played out.
Personally, I think its a disgrace what "4" has put the Minnesota Vikings through. Minnesota’s fan base, although happy at this moment didn’t deserve the crap he put them through for six months, only to change his mind yet again just two and a half-weeks after he said he was done.

distadler55 you’re funny. the team goes 13-3 and you pick one game where the Pack and Brett played bad…..
Nothing good happened that season, he didn’t carry the team until the running game got going, he just palyed bad against the Bears, and only him of course.

Jared Allen will respect anyone that buys him a drink, gives him a ride home, or points him to the nearest sheep with low standards. The Jets were a Super Bowl contender last year, too. Then they watched the guy Favre replaced lead the Dolphins (coming off a 1 – 15 record) right past them and on into the playoffs. That was shortly after Favre’s annual Interceptapalooza Winter Tour. And I don’t think all will be well just because the dome never gets cold. First, Minnesota does play road games. Second, Favre lost in San Diego last year, in Oakland (yes, Oakland), in Seattle, and in San Fransisco. He is more than capable of stinking when it is warm. He just really stinks when it is cold.
