You Will Have to Mourn Me Till Ya Join Me

This will be my final post at The Sporting Blog, and it is a bittersweet one. I have had the opportunity to go to the Kentucky Derby, two college football national title games, and write full-time for a living in combination with my work on EDSBS.com. Rewind: "work" is a very strong word for what I do at EDSBS, or what I did here, for that matter. I got away with it, though, and that's what counts most. Let the others find the bodies and dust for prints.

It has been a privilege to watch this great ship of state sail from the beginning, and to have been a tiny part of its growth and success. I would like to thank the management for their permission, even when they did not know they were granting it. I would also thank Chris Littmann for his tolerance, and fellow bloggers like Bethlehem Shoals, Large, Brian Cook, Dan Shanoff, and Dan Levy for their consistent wisdom, insight, wit, and occasionally annoying levels of talent. Thanks to Matt Hayes and Dave Curtis, too, for being great resources for college football and all other things journalistic. Keeping pace with the surrounding cast has been the most difficult part of the job, but also the most rewarding. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, unless that endeavor is something I want that you also want and are trying to get, in which case I will kick you into an open sewer to die. Other than that scenario? All best wishes to you.

And to the readers who enjoyed what I wrote here, thank you. To those who did not, I have this fascinating open sewer over here you just have to look at. No, over here. Closer. Yes, that's it ...

In farewell, I would like to offer up a picture of how I'd like to be remembered. The choice is an obvious one: me, puking into a garbage can. This is just a warm-up for my real funeral, where the same picture will appear on my coffin just prior to its total destruction by catapult. In the future, I will be writing away about college football at EDSBS.com, and hope you will not be a stranger. Cocktails to you all, and goodbye.

I am truely going to miss my fighting brawler!  He made the sport so much fun and I am truely saddened to hear of Arturo Gatti’s death. The sport of boxing will miss him tramendously.  He was one of the most exciting fighters to ever enter the ring.  Tears & Prayers, Fan4ever

This is quite tragic.  I never even read one of your blogs till last season when you made a Faith No More reference.  I’m pretty sure no one at ESPN would ever make an FNM reference.  (Well, except maybe in 1991 and specifically to the song "Epic", as opposed to the the 99% of their catalog that-is-not-"Epic".)

You’re also the only sports columnist I think I have encountered that used the word "ragamuffin" in an article.

I’ll miss reading your ridiculous columns. They were quite entertaining.  (And I don’t have quite the energy or motivation to go to EDSBS.com, so I guess this is the end!)

No loss. Just another wannabe athlete, who never made it and
THINKS he knows more than everyone else. The only thing certain is that you’re an expert using both hands…but it ain’t on the keyboard D’bag!
