Hill Just Part of 2006 Draft Disaster

Tye Hill wasn't the only 2006 high draft pick to leave St. Louis today. This from NBC Sports:

On the same day that the Rams traded their first-round draft pick from 2006 for a bowl of soup, they also dumped their second-round pick from that season: Joe Klopfenstein.

The Rams have won exactly five games in two seasons since drafting Hill and Klopfenstein. Apparently they weren't the rebuilding solution.

Other Youthful Corners Made Hill Expendable

Despite being a former first rounder, Tye Hill was not the Rams' best option at cornerback, and rather then have to answer questions as to why he was on the bench, they sent him packing. This from ESPN's Mike Sando:

As much as anything, the Rams' decision to trade Hill to the Falcons -- presumably for a late-round draft choice -- reflects what the team thought about Hill relative to the promising young corners already on the roster. The group features 2007 third-rounder Jonathan Wade, 2008 fourth-rounder Justin King, 2009 third-rounder Bradley Fletcher and free-agent rookie Quincy Butler. Falcons Snag CB Tye Hill from Rams

Jay Glazer is tweeting, twittering, err...he's announcing that the Atlanta Falcons have acquired CB Tye Hill from the St. Louis Rams. Hill was a former 1st-round pick who was just sent packing from the Rams for a seventh-rounder. Uh, can you say depreciation?

From the chrome-domed one who can kick your ass:

i'm reporting the falcons have just traded 7th rd pick for Rams' former 1st rd CB Tye Hill. ATL looking to upgrade wherever they can on def

SB Nation blog The Falcoholic has more on the story.

Hill is a cautionary tale in many ways. Picked 15th overall by the Rams back in 2006, he made the Pro Football Writers of America's All-Rookie Team, but has largely struggled to stay on the field since then. He ended both 2007 and 2008 on injured reserve, and his play when he was on the field rarely approached any kind of sustained excellence. For his three-year career in St. Louis, Hill picked 4 passes, deflected 13 and came up with 105 tackles. Those aren't eye-popping numbers, and now you know why the Rams were willing to swap a seventh rounder for the guy.

SB Nation blog Turf Show Times tells the story from a Rams' perspective.

And so the Tye Hill saga enters a second chapter somewhere else.

...[for] a seventh round pick, which should tell you much about how the new [Rams] coaching staff saw Hill in their plans.
