ESPN’s True Hoop emerges today with one of the best pieces they’ve ever written. Peering beyond the veneer of “Hollywood” stories and myth, they examine Michael Jordan the man—foibles and greatness juxtaposed. It’s an engaging read, and if nothing else, it’s a welcome departure from the romanticizing that’s sure to take place over the next few weeks.
Jordan was the best basketball player anyone’s ever seen; but the same qualities that made him flawless on the court, made him a person with real, glaring character flaws off it. We shouldn’t forget that. And, more importantly, that makes for a much more interesting story.
