Two legendary administrators out of Indiana basketball passed away yesterday. One was Myles Brand, who worked closely with Indiana basketball and Bob Knight before joining the NCAA. The other was Mel Simon, who owned the Indiana Pacers for decades and was beloved as an owner, businessman, and philanthropist in Indiana.
SBN’s Indy Cornrows has a collection of obituaries for the late-owner, and it’s worth checking out. He may not have had the national profile of some fellow owners, but what he lacked in national clout he more than compensated for with profound integrity. Sounds like a very cool guy.
