Bryant Out, Didn't Travel to Buffalo

All indications were that Tampa Bay receiver Antonio Bryant wouldn’t play on Sunday. It’s confirmed, Bryant is officially out.

Bryant, who’s been dealing with a knee injury, did not travel with the team to Buffalo, the Bucs announced Saturday evening. That means rookie Sammie Stroughter, Maurice Stovall or Brian Clark will start opposite Michael Clayton.

Michael Clayton Worth a Pickup?

If Antonio Bryant isn’t able to go for the Bucs this week, former first-rounder Michael Clayton might be a sneaky option. The LSU product burst onto the fantasy scene as a rookie in 2004 with 1193 yards and seven touchdowns, before fading into obscurity due to a series of injuries and just overall poor play.

In last week’s opener against the Cowboys, Clayton and quarterback Byron Leftwich seemed to have a good rapport; the two hooked up for eight passes and 93 yards. With Byrant out of the lineup, Clayton should be the team’s top wideout. Someone is going to get yards in the Bucs offense; Clayton might be the best bet moving forward.

Antonio Bryant Questionable for Week 2

Many GM's won their leagues last year by having an amazing 2nd half of the season from Antonio Bryant, but then he got hurt and the Bucs had a ton of personnel changes that dropped him down the fantasy totem pole. But still, those stats made it hard not to grab him when he fell in your drafts. Now we are feeling the repercussions of that pick!

Bryant's knee swelled up against the Cowboys in week 1 and he has yet to practice this week. Coach Raheem Morris says:

You want Antonio to play, of course, so it's obviously a disappointment. We've got guys on this team that have got to play, that have got to go in there. Obviously, we want Antonio to play for us, but if he's not there, the next guy has got to step up.

Be sure to have an alternative ready. Obviously you don't want to cut bait, but if he continues to get swelling in his surgically repaired knee this could become a tough season for Bryant.
