A reader of ESPN’s Bill Simmons introduced this a while back, and it’s true: Mount Rushmore is a concept that can really be applied to any walk of life. Like the Mount Rushmore of basketball players (Magic, Larry, Mike… Big O?) or the Mount Rushmore of Rappers (2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z … who else?) or… anything, really.
Well, I doubt that Gilbert Arenas reads ESPN.com in his spare time, but he arrived at the same conclusion, albeit taking the conversation starter to a more… “permanent” end.
That’s right, according to Nick Friedell, he got a tattoo of what he calls “Black Rushmore,” with the faces of Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, and Malcom X wrapped around his leg.
This is a pipe dream, but I think it would be great if the Wizards’ Mike Miller responded with a White Basketball Rushmore on his leg: with Bird, Walton, Pete Maravich, and Tom Chambers. Why not, right? They’re just tattoos…
