Update

Clausen Will Play Saturday vs. Purdue

AP confirming that Jimmy Clausen has turf toe, but will start in Week 4:

Clausen injured his right foot when he was sacked by Michigan State last week, but missed only two plays in the game. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said an MRI shows that Clausen has turf toe and will miss practice today as a precaution.

Update

Notre Dame Optimistic About Clausen

Fans of the Fighting Irish will probably have to wait one more day to learn the status of quarterback Jimmy Clausen (country’s 2nd-ranked quarterback) for this Saturday’s game at Purdue (country’s 105th-ranked defense). If Clausen, who injured his right foot in the 2nd quarter of the 33-30 win over Michigan State but managed to stay in the game and limp his way to over 300 yards passing, things could go from bad to very worse for Notre Dame, having already lost Michael Floyd for the year.

For now, Charlie Weis is dodging and deflecting with that charm and humor we’ve come to know and love.

“Dr. Clausen?” Weis responded when prodded about the extent of Irish junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen’s foot injury.

“You’re going on the assumption he’ll be ready to play?” a reporter pressed, spinning forward into Saturday night’s matchup at Purdue.

“I’m under the assumption he’ll try to milk as much (practice) time out of me as he can,” Weis said with a chuckle. “Will he be hobbled some? We’ll have to wait and see how it goes. Jimmy is a tough guy. Unless there’s a serious injury, he’ll do all that he can to play. So we’ll see where we are.”

Clausen was expected to undergo an MRI on Sunday.

Original Story

Notre Dame WR Floyd Likely Out For Season

Notre Dame's year of living dangerously just got slightly more dangerous:

Irish standout wide receiver Michael Floyd underwent surgery Sunday morning for a broken collarbone and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

Floyd was the "1" in the "1-2" wideout combo of Floyd and Golden Tate, the pair who combined have accounted for 659 yards of offense and 8 TDs on the season. Taking Floyd out of the lineup evaporates 119 yards of offense a game, and instantly weakens the efficiency of an offense heavily dependent on the deep ball.

It also means those of you looking for a bone labeled "Charlie Weis is OMG IN TEH TROUBLE !1!!!1!" to chew on just found one to gnaw on for the next week or so, since Weis is in year five of his coaching internship at Notre Dame, and is generally considered to be on the hot seat. (For the fifth year in a row. Coaching is fun!)
