Yao Ming spoke to a Houston television station recently, and said his surgery was successful, and “the bones heal well.” So he’s coming back mid-season. But he’s not taking any chances.
From the AP:
There is no chance that he will play in the 2009-10 NBA season.
“The answer is no. You don’t want to rush it, because they want it to totally heal this time. I have been in this situation enough. … For long term, believe me for long term, I need to slow down.”
Fans of press conference Confucianism will mourn this loss, but Darryl Morey, Rockets GM and stat geek, is probably giddy: the Rockets' possessions-per-game is primed for an uptick!
