Updated throughout the day with quick takes from staff.
But putting aside all that, it's college football (!!!) and a damn good game, with both teams ranked. Boise is poised to make its biannual BCS-buster run, and Oregon kicks off the Chip Kelly era with but nine returning starters. One of two memes gets launched tonight:
1. If Boise was in the Mountain West, would it get an automatic BCS bid?2. Oregon! Dethrones USC! Maybe!
The only downside is that Ian Johnson, one of those guys who spent what seems like a decade in college, is finally gone, depriving us all of the opportunity to make whoa-Ian-Johnson-that-guy's- been-in-college-forever jokes.
No matter, though. Every year I flip on the first Thursday night games and think "Mississippi State-South Carolina! I'm so excited!" This excitement even persists after a laughable first half that sees more interceptions than points. "Yeah, SEC defenses," I think.
Hell, the Orlando Sentinel's opening weekend preview has a "which game are you anticipating most?" poll and Utah-Utah State* is on there, but I still thought "what channel?" to myself. So there's a slight possibility I'll short-circuit at the prospect of a 54-50 game between ranked teams.
ALSO: I was pulling a random joke game out of my head above, but it turns out that, yes, South Carolina is taking its usual spot on the opening Thursday, and it's against N.C. State. If only Russell Wilson did not exist, that 3-0 first half would have been assured. As it is, it's half-assured. Wilson was wildly electric last year, with the emphasis on "wild." Both games seem worth, you know, watching. As would Furman-USC at this point, sure.
*(Seriously. No offense to the fine people of Utah, but the Aggies were 3-9 in the WAC last year. There are a half-dozen games against snackycakes of more import this weekend.)

Except that the Ducks aren’t gonna be wearing those yellow uniforms tonight. They don’t even have the yellow helmets anymore. They’re wearing white.

Good stuff. Two things come to mind:
1.) DuckedOut needs to relax.
2.) Brian Cook makes me happy.

@DuckedOut: Cool out man. Nowhere did he write they were wearing yellow. I picked that photo because it was the best illustration of Oregon’s gregarious uniforms. (Associated Press likes to charge coin for photos of the new ones.) Even wearing white, Oregon’s unis still have a "unique" look for sure.

Get back on your ANTI-PSYCHOTICS quack-less duck BLOWHARD!
By the way, there’s a reason why the PAC-10 college hoopdom media-nexus VOTED that duck fan clan the WORST cheerleaders in the PAC-10.
And baby, the duck football pompom wavers are abso-LUTE-ly no different from their hoops kin. As evidenced by that "unmentionable" duck pompom waver above.

Wow. I was going to write, "the two ugliest sets of uniforms in the universe on one field tonight," until I heard UO was wearing white. Green helmets, I hope.
Go Ducks!!!

No doubt about it . . . this one game where you probably don’t want to watch in high definition. Every time I see this field I have to wonder: What if my Sooners painted the field in Memorial Stadium solid crimson? As big of a fan of them as I am, I have to say I NEVER want to see that – Keep it Green Folks!!!!

BSU’s unis and field yeah i can see where your coming from in truth. I believe Ian Johnson was the 3rd best back on team last season with all due respect to Ian and everything he’s done. Avery and Harper more explosive and effective last season.
One of the few games you will ever see me cheering against Oregon’s fb team, I havn’t wore any of their gear since they arrived on BSU’s schedule its all BSU. I think Ducks have by far the best looking unis on planet earth and it doesn’t matter what color scheme.
Im so excited and nervous for this game tonight, i hope BSU’s players slept better than i last night. This game will be about the only BSU game that sticks in most writers and fans minds at seasons end. When BSU takes the field tonight on ESPN it will be hard not to become little emotional, its been a great journey. A huge game for Idaho!!!! BSU against Oregon on the blue turf it doesn’t get any better for me.
And to top it all off my dad goes on business trip to Boise few days ago and i find out today hes going to be sitting in box seats tonight with some of his associates. Im jelious i wanted to watch this game live so bad but even cheap seats so expensive, and the timing was just bad for me.
BSU fan since 85 and proud of it! Go BSU, Idaho’s so proud of you! For the Non BCS teams and fans, for the Big Sky, for the WAC, for the intermountain west, and for Idaho. Lets get a win!
