As the NFL's Rosters Shrink, Notable Names Cut

This post will be updated as more teams report their moves.

NFL teams are cutting their rosters to the 53-player limit today, which means names you know will be tossed aside as coaches and GMs decide who is worth bringing into the season, and Al Davis will do something stupid. We're paying attention to the former.

Giants: Super Bowl XLII hero David Tyree cannot hang on to his spot. (If that sounds dry, blame Joe Buck.)

Redskins: Colt Brennan to injured reserve; ESPN's Chris Mortensen hinting at Chase Daniel's (pictured) release. Bro name quotient successfully reduced.

Saints: Joey Harrington released to tickle ivories once more.

Bengals: Hard Knocks favorites Tom Nelson, DeDe Dorsey, and Brian Leonard make it; the rookie fullbacks do not.

Cardinals: Tight end Leonard Pope headlines a list of names pared from the roster. This is the only list Pope will ever headline.

Broncos: Darius Walker released from the stable of running backs. Notre Dame's weekend starts with a bang.

Dolphins: DE Matt Roth, who did not play this preseason, is placed on non-football injury reserve. You can't miss what you didn't have.

Falcons: Cutting D.J. Shockley is going to upset the eleven delusional Georgia/Atlanta fans who were holding out hope for him to beat out Matt Ryan.

Steelers: Fullback Carey Davis, who the Steelers tried to use frequently as a receiver out of the backfield to less than desirable effect, has been released. As have backs Justin Vincent and Issac Redman, as well as veteran corner Anthony Madison. Former CFL player Stefan Logan, who has been a standout returnman in the preseason, secured a roster spot following a kickoff return TD in the final preseason game against the Panthers.

Bills: The agent for former Colts and Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes confirmed that he has been released by the team.

Vikings: Former USC quarterback John David Booty is the odd man out in the four-QB equation in Minnesota, as Jason La Canfora reports he's been waived.

Seahawks: Safety Brian Russell, who was anything but a fan favorite, has been let go. His departure makes room for former Falcon, Bill and Patriot safety Lawyer Milloy, who is reportedly close to a deal.

Texans: Frequently burnt former Bengals and Patriots corner Deltha O'Neal was shown the door.

Ravens: The team cut receiver and returner Yamon Figurs, leaving only four receivers on the final roster.

Raiders: Jeff Garcia, who many had speculated would push JaMarcus Russell for the starting job, didn't make it out of the preseason.

I’m genuinely surprised that the Bengals kept both Dorsey and Leonard. Good to see though.

Hagan over Tyrre??? Seriously? They say Hagan is a special teams player as well but Tyrre went to Pro Bowl as a special teams player so that makes no sense. Also Allen Patrick had a good preseason and was cut, the giants should have keep 4 RB  not 3.

You don’t remember Morency and Herron on the roster because they weren’t on the roster. Good research.

MORENCY AND HERRON DROPPED BY THE GB PACKERS? Umm…they don’t play for the Packers you idiots! They were both dropped by the Packers in 2008!

MORENCY isn’t even in the NFL and Herron was waived by the Browns…next time you write an article, let me know and I’ll do the 90 seconds to "effort" the facts for your article…

Thanks, DrStale and pjblum: Good catch. The article’s from 2008, and that’s totally my fault. The actual Packers cuts are up there now.
