Original Story

Vikings CB Cedric Griffin May Have Torn ACL, MCL

On the heels of Sunday's devastating loss in the NFC title game, the Minnesota Vikings look to have befallen their second loss of 2010: cornerback Cedric Griffin may have suffered both a torn ACL and MCL, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Griffin will reportedly undergo an MRI soon to determine the severity of his injury.

Griffin was injured on the opening play of overtime, when Saints running back Pierre Thomas ran back the kickoff 40 yards. Griffin left the game, and his replacement was called for a key third-down holding penalty that extended the Saints' game-winning drive.

If Griffin did tear both knee ligaments, his availability for the beginning of next season will be in serious jeopardy. Multiple ligament injuries involve a lengthy recovery process, meaning Griffin could very well miss the first few weeks of the 2010 regular season.
