SBN's Blazersedge Takes 450 Kids To Hornets-Blazers Game

Looking for an inspirational sports story that actually speaks for itself? Then look no further than SBN's Blazersedge, which is quickly becoming a leader in "blogging off the screen." Surprisingly, this comes free of Chris Connelly, slow piano music and tearful interviews. Okay, so maybe there were a few tears, but they were good tears. Promise.

After a giant fundraising effort consisting of donations from a host of readers, Blazersedge was able to send a whopping 450 kids to see the Portland TrailBlazers play the New Orleans Hornets on Monday night. Editor Dave Deckard recites his thoughts on what he deemed to be "one irreplaceable night":

The energy, even walking in, was profound. People were looking around. The kids' eyes were wide. They ranged in age from what looked like older pre-teens to full-on teenagers. Many of them were gaping at the size of the arena, the appearance of the court, the huge scoreboard screen (natch), even the letters and numbers on their actual row which led to their actual seat at an actual Blazer game. [...]

Kids were jumping, smiling, lost in the moment. I don't know how much any of them knew about basketball or picks and rolls or true shooting percentages. They just knew that this was our team...the guys we were here to see.

Chief among all purposes of blogs is to write, and for that writing to consistently satisfy a readership. However, in some cases, there comes a special opportunity to reach out and make a real-world impact. Thanks to Dave and to the Blazersedge community, these kids got to experience a night they will never forget.
