Shawn Springs Picks the Wrong Metaphor for a Saints Super Bowl

I understand that in ESPN's rush to get every single NFL player to appear on one of its approximately seven hundred shows, there may be players who have only light media training being put on camera to disseminate their opinions. But I would assume even the lightest of media training for a pre-Saints-in-the-Super-Bowl interview would include this directive: "Don't make any jokes about hurricanes."

Shawn Springs didn't get that, clearly.

Dana Jacobson: "Which offense -- or, which team, rather, would you rather not face for the Super Bowl? Who would you rather not face for the Super Bowl?"

Shawn Springs: "Well, if it was me, I would hope that a hurricane comes through."

Sure, it's not quite the coach of a team with players suspended for weapons charges saying "We've got a lot of weapons," but it's a tremendously poor choice of words.

I work in off-color humor a lot, and one of the better guidelines is You Have To Wait Twenty Years After A Tragedy Before You Can Goof On It.

With monster events like Katrina or 9/11, you may even have to wait a lifetime.
