After taking down Sweden in tonight’s semifinal game 5-2 the USA will get another shot at Canada, this time for the Gold Medal. The two teams played in a thrilling game in pool play last week, with Canada edging the USA in the shootout.
Last season, Canada routed the Americans in pool play before the U.S. lost to Slovakia in the quarterfinals. The 7-4 loss to Canada seemingly broke their resolve last year, but the 2010 team is more talented and more ready for the challenge to take on the dangerous Canadian team.
The U.S. will have their hands full, especially if they are unable to get their struggling power play to finally produce some goals. Against Sweden, the U.S. was locked in a tight 2-2 game until late in the third period; the Americans had blown several power play chances earlier in the game, including a five-minute man-advantage.
Team USA will take on Team Canada for the gold medal at 8:00 pm Tuesday night and can be seen on the NHL Network.
