Some NASCAR fans gripe that Dale Earnhardt Jr. has turned out to be nothing like his father. Mark Martin disagrees.
Earnhardt Jr. has yet to win a championship, yet Martin believes he bears many similarities to his legendary father Dale Earnhardt, a seven-time Cup winner.
Martin – one of the few drivers still in the Sprint Cup series who raced with the elder Earnhardt – explains his reasons in this video taken on the NASCAR preseason media tour a couple weeks ago.

That was nice of MM to say. There is one quality that Jr has that Sr didn’t have, and I am grateful. He respects the drivers on the track and will wreck himself before wrecking another driver. Of course this doesn’t mean he is respected back in return. Some drivers take great pleasure in hiting Jr. What goes around comes around though. He’s doing the right thing.

Dale Jr does carry a lot of NASCAR on his shoulders. Thats tough enough as it is. Then enter in his own stuff. Takes a strong person to keep going day after day and with his demeanor. It will turn around soon. Everyone has this phases.

why does Jr have to be like his father?
This is one issue I will never understand. Why does everyone expect Jr to be like his father?
When Junior started racing he drove like his father in some ways. Back then he was criticized for trying to be like his dad.
It’s a ridiculous no-win situation.
