Tim Tebow's Senior Bowl week has been a ton of fun -- but, for a change, it's been fun for everyone but Tim Tebow and his defenders. Todd McShay gets to say Tebow's week deserves a D+, the Super Bowl ad controversy rages with no on-field counterweight and keeps getting bigger, and Tebow's own body betrayed him, as a respiratory ailment apparently dogged him all week.
But the most insane piece of news in this week of Tebow's over-examined life? That a CFL team putting him on a list means he's ticketed for our northern neighbor's wider fields.
When University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow recently decided to hire a private tutor, he didn’t select someone from the NFL or even the NCAA. Instead, he decided on Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman.I'll guarantee this now: Tebow will not play a down in the Canadian Football League. The negotiation list serves in place of a draft for American college football players, and it's generally a poorly-handled publicity stunt. Putting Tebow on their list is about as likely to bring him to Montreal as the Brevard Blue Ducks drafting LeBron James was to send the King to the USBL.While it’s unlikely Tebow will ever play a down in the Canadian Football League, two sources have told Canwest News Service he’s on the Als’ confidential negotiation list — meaning should he venture north, Montreal holds the first option on his rights.
Besides, the Alouettes already have a Florida quarterback whose talents have not translated to the pros. And Chris Leak is their third-stringer. Why would Tebow cross the border to repeat his freshman year?

Why can’t he play in the CFL? Chris Leak is in Montreal and doing fine. At the end of the day football is just a job. If the kid can’t make it in the NFL but can draw a paycheck from the CFL what’s the big deal?

Tebow would be a ticket-stub draw and could easily earn $250,000 per year up there plus signing bonus. CFL pay their top 15 or 20 ticket stub guys good money and the rest make about $25K. A very good player like Grootegoed from USC can make $100,000 for doing something he loves.
I don’t think we need to worry about Tebow, though. He’ll get 3rd round money + bonus, and will have that “motivational speaking tour” when he hangs them up. This guy has the college folklore of Red Grange (:
