He is one of the faces of the NHL, the highest payed player on the Capitals and now, he is the captain of the team. Alexander Ovechkin has been named the captain of the Washington Capitals today after former captain Chris Clark was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. This makes sense for the Capitals because Ovechkin is such a big presence on and off the ice for Washington. Here is what our Capitals site Japers' Rink had to say about it:
Is it the "right" choice? Well, we'll put it this way - if Ovechkin fully understands all that is expected of an NHL captain and still wants the captaincy, not giving it to him would have most definitely been the wrong choice.
For Ovechkin, this is one more thing to add to his resume. Like he really needed anything else.
