As you probably know by now, Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely by the NBA on Wednesday for carrying guns into the Wizards' locker room. Oddly enough, today also marked the release of his new ad campaign with ... adidas? Verizon? Some online poker site? Nope. PETA.
Yup, file this one in the "unfortunate timing" folder, which I guess isn't completely fair to either Gilbert or PETA. This ad--part of the group's campaign against fur sales--had always been scheduled to be released right after the holidays, when retailers traditionally make a big push to clear out their fur inventory.
Obviously PETA has nothing to do with the illegal possession of firearms, but it just all feels, I don't know, weird. As Dan Steinberg says, "the animal-rights group is, you know, never controversial."
To put a bow on all of this: today is also his birthday. So, Happy 28th Birthday, Gil! Everyone "Get drunk and make bad decisions," right?
