What if the NBA All-Star Game was just one, giant pickup game? It already is, you say?
Well, see, that's the point. Courtesy of Mad Buckets comes this brilliant idea. Why not let the fans vote four captains into the game, and then an additional 16 players? The captains can then pick their teams, playground-style.
The All-Star Game is already sort of a joke. It's not like anyone remembers which team wins. But if Lebron and Kobe were team captains, and Lebron had to choose between Chris Paul and Dwight Howard... Does that sound like something you might be interested in?
The All-Star Game in its current format isn't necessarily broken, but it's definitely irrelevant. And overnight, this idea would inject untold amounts of intrigue into the process. To modify the original idea: the fans vote two captains, and then 24 players from which they can choose. You know how we always hear whing about certain players getting snubbed? That's overwith. Two players would get snubbed every year, thanks to the timeless, perfect democracy of the playground. And who could argue?
"It was Lebron's choice, not the league!"
You think I'm joking, but I'm dead serious.
