Former Washington Capitals goaltender Olaf Kolzig stated his belief this past December that Alexander Semin (not Ovechkin) has the best shot he has seen in 17 NHL seasons. While the captain packs power, his Russian comrade is able to deceit defensemen with a wrist shot that is as wicked as it is accurate. Semin loves utilizing the curl-and-drag maneuver to go around players or simply fire quickly towards the top corner. And, despite it being close to his body, he puts a lot of force behind those pucks when they leave his stick using a slingshot effect.
In his hat-trick versus the Ottawa Senators, the 25-year-old shows his amazing offensive capabilities on all three goals and how effective he can be when he's ready to compete.
Back to what Kolzig said about his ex-teammate, here is the quote:
"When you see a kid who has more talent than the reigning MVP, you want to see more," Kolzig says of the 13th player taken in the 2002 draft. "He's teasing you. The frustrating thing is he hasn't gotten everything out of his talent."
If Alexander Semin has yet to hit his peak, we are in for a real treat down the road when he does.
