Following Sunday's pothole debacle at the Daytona 500, we had another race track mishap Monday night, when the Zambonis ice resurfacing machines at the Richmond Olympic Ovalin in Vancouver were unable to create a smooth surface for the men's 500m speed skating event. The ice the machines left behind was rippled and uneven, not ideal for men flying around a track with swords attached to their feet.
Officials tried three different machines, and after an hour delay they were finally able to get the ice in proper racing condition.
Of course, you, the disgruntled Olympics viewer, didn't get to see any of the actual race because NBC is bound and determined to show nothing but figure skating, even if it means destroying the enjoyment of the events they've labeled "marquee." Heaven forbid they interrupt the Rachel Maddow Show or their NCIS marathon to use one of their other networks for live programming of medal events.
Tae-Bum Mo won, by the way.
