Olympic Hockey: USA Vs. Switzerland Game Thread

3 PM ET / Noon PT : United States vs Switzerland in Group A action

Broadcast details: Live coverage on USA Network

[UPDATE: Please head on over to our 2nd period thread to discuss the game, located here]

With fans from all over SB Nation and beyond joining forces to root on the United States, or whichever country they prefer, we decided what better place to gather together to discuss the hockey games than right here on SBNation.com.

Today, the United States takes on Switzerland to start off tournament play. This is your official game thread stream to discuss today's game, and depending on how many comments we get we'll most likely have new threads for each period. We'll also have a live thread for tonight's Canada and Norway game, but for now this is the official SB Nation destination to talk USA hockey.

Please Note: To have the comments auto-refresh, click the checkbox just above where the first comment begins.

This is a good team to start off against.

Not overly tough, but a good test.

I’d accept Burke’s explanation that he wanted the younger future stars of US Hockey to get an Olympics under their belt if Drury wasn’t on this team.

But it’s all water under the bridge now.

they cant even show long track speed skating live plus the alpine sking live but they show almost 2 hours of pairs figure skating. live.

by Lancers25 on Feb 16, 2010 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

Strangely, I don't

Showing the game on USA instead of NBC, you don’t run the risk of NBC interrupting the game to show you Canada/Norway Curling highlights or Johnny Weir weardrobe highlights. It least it should be 100% dedicated hockey coverage on USA.

I can understand the frustrations of those who don’t get all the channels, but I do. And I can see USA in HD just as easily as NBC.

The truth of the matter is that figure skating gets incredible ratings, for some freaking weird reason.

Skating Around In today’s Times, Charles McGrath and Jeff Z. Klein discuss how the Olympic coaches have gone about assembling their teams. They ask Rangers Coach John Tortorella, who is handling special teams for the United States, how he set up a system for the power play. "You don’t," he said. "You do the best you can. But we’re not trying to reinvent anything, just get out of the way and let the players play."

Ummmm….okay, I guess. “You boys just go out there and do your thing!”
