Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Derrick Favors scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets handled the North Carolina Tar Heels, 68-51, in ACC play at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Brian Oliver and Zachery Peacock each had 12 points for GT (18-8, 6-6), which snapped a two-game slide, and Gani Lawal tacked on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Deon Thompson led UNC (14-12, 3-8) and all scorers with 17 points and five boards. John Henson added a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards, as the Tar Heels fell for the fifth time in six games.
GT closed the first half on a 24-6 run for a commanding 41-21 lead at the intermission.
The Jackets shot 40.0 percent from the floor, including 4-of-9 from long range, in the second half, as they came away with the 17-point win.
GT, which swept the regular-season series from UNC for the first time since 1995-96, forced 19 turnovers and limited UNC to a 32.2 percent shooting effort from the field.
