McGrady Headed To The Knicks In Three-Team Deal

The proposed three-way deal between Houston, New York, and Sacramento appears to be coming to fruition. According to ESPN's Mark Stein, the teams have agreed in principle to a blockbuster deal that sends McGrady to New York along with Sacramento PG Sergio Rodriguez, sends Sacramento shooting guard Kevin Martin to the Rockets, and brings Houston's Carl Landry--along with Joey Dorsey and Larry Hughes' expiring contract (about $14 million)--to Sacramento.

Because we're talking about the Houston Rockets and the best GM in the league, Daryl Morey, Houston also gets New York's 2009 lottery pick, Jordan Hill,  the right to swap first round picks with the Knicks in 2011, as well as taking the Knicks' first round pick outright in 2012. Per usual, building through the draft is not one of New York's top priorities, while Morey seems content to stockpile assets.

For Sacramento, they'll get some much-needed help on the frontline with Landry, one of the better young big men in the league, as well as some valuable cap space when Hughes' deal expires this spring. It comes with an expense, though: giving up Kevin Martin, the lone bright spot for Sacramento the past few years, and still one of the most talented young guards in the league.

For New York, the trade allows them to take a flier on McGrady, and potentially use his star power to lure a superstar this summer. And either way, his massive $23 million salary will come off the books this spring, clearing the way for New York to add not one, but two max contract players. They also gave up Jordan Hill, this year's eighth overall pick. But again, these are the Knicks. Swingin' for the fences, amirite?! Tracy McGrady was totally a superstar like five years ago!

And finally, Houston wins. God Houston wins. They traded Carl Landry, Tracy McGrady (who was inactive for them), and Joey Dorsey. So basically, they lost one player from their rotation (Landry). What did that net them? Two first round picks, a lottery pick from last year's draft (Jordan Hill), Jared Jefferies, and one of the more effective shooting guards in the league, Kevin Martin. And again, from this year's core, they lose only Carl Landry.

That, my friends, is a good day at the office for Darryl Morey.

One the Rockets have the choice to swap the 2011 first round picks, Knicks will have a better record then the Rockets considering they do not have much to build on. The 2012 pick is top 10 protected but again we will be a top 10 team so you can have it. The knicks will be on the upside of 30 mil to spend closing in on 40 when they buyout half of Curry’s option year which is another 5.7 mil we save on next years cap. O and one thing, no matter where you win a title is always made more of a deal when you do it in NY and Lebron wants to be Derek Jeter, he doesnt even have to put up ridiculous numbers and he is as big or bigger then MJ. So I think Lebron and Bosh in NY with McGrady on the cheap, with Gallo and Wilson Chandler and whoever else makes NY the long term winner, but you can have today if it makes ya feel good lol

wow

A lot of confidence in a franchise that has made terrible decisions for the past decade and they will suddenly be great?

The Rockets easily win and will be a top western team once Yao is back. The Knicks have to lure people there while Houston all ready have the players in place.

Someone really thinks the Knicks made out on this deal? lmao. How do the Rockets not have anything to build on? They are winning now without McGrady so how would this possibly hurt them? Landry is an excellent player so that loss will hurt but Jordan Hill could fill that role. You add Jeffries and a top scorer in Kevin Martin but somehow the Knicks make out? I don’t get that at all. The Rockets will easily be a top 4 team in the West next season with Yao coming back to join a young core in Martin, Ariza, Brooks, Hill, Budinger, and Hayes. The oldest being Martin at 27. Battier and Scola are a bit older but Battier is maybe one of the best guys there is to mentor the young guys. I’m a Rockets fan so you may say I’m bias but I can’t for a second see how this goes bad for the them.

top 1 in 2011 and top 5 in 2012. Id take Kevin Martin over Landry which is the KEY to the deal. T-Mac has not played all year so the Rockets gave up NOTHING besides Carl Landry who is a good player but get a better scorer in return.

KUCCIKOTZ STOP WATCHING BASKETBALL YOU COMPARING JORDAN HILL TO LANDRY? HILL IS AWFUL AND WILL BE OUT OF THE LEAGUE IN 1 SEASON AND NO ONE EVEN WANTED JEFFERIES…. I THINK WE ROBBED YOU…!!! YOU TOOK 2 BUMS FOR A PROTECTED DRAFT PICK YOU A HOLE

How did you rob the Rockets?

Really? The only reason the Knicks were included were to matchup salaries that is why Houston kept turning down the offers and then included the Kings. Yes, the Knicks get cap space, but as I said they will have to lure players to NYC that should not be too hard to get Bosh and someone else.

With the moves the Cavs made LeBron is not going to the basketball wasteland known as the Knicks.
