Patrick Kane made a masterful pass up the left boards, then attracted four opponents as he he raced towards the net as Zach Parise took the puck into the zone. A big shot by Parise produced a juicy rebound, and the four Norwegian defenders seemingly forgot all about Kane, as he was left all alone to knock the rebound in for an early second period goal.
Unfortunately, the United States’ aggression and propensity to allow odd-man rushes bit them just minutes later. Jamie Langenbrunner went for a sneaky shot from the point, yet fell behind the goal line and immediately four USA players were caught down low. Marius Holtet scored on the ensuing 2-on-1 and suddenly a game that the USA was in complete control of could become much closer.
