Chad Ochocinco has always been a pretty willful individual, so it's no surprise that his half-serious Ochocinco News Network proposal is now a reality. It's a Motorola-sponsored, Twitter-based news service, and I can't tell whether I'm dreaming or actually typing this stuff. As Chad said, "I’m knocking out the middle man."
And now he's live at the Super Bowl in Miami. Child please? From the Miami Herald:
Ochocinco has partnered with Motorola to form OCNN, and they're covering Super Bowl week like no one else ever has: via live Twitter updates from No. 85 and fellow NFL stars Ray Rice, Chris Cooley and Darnell Dockett. Their website: Motorola.com/OCNN.
They'll hit Media Day with a vengeance. They'll go all-access at the week's hottest parties. They even have their own news van.
Oh, Ocho. I go back-and-forth on him almost every day. One minute, he's awesome, saying "I know a couple people in Liberty City that could beat Michael Phelps right now." The next, he's annoying—constantly seeking attention, celebrating after meaningless touchdowns. And then... he'll do something truly remarkable, like this incredibly powerful story from ESPN's Amy K. Nelson, where he reaches out to a family grieving the loss of a college senior.
One thing's for sure: he's more complex than most talking heads would ever care to admit.
And as for the "OCNN"... It's another chapter in a strange, awesome narrative. And like everything he does, I'm sure people will be watch. Did you hear? He's got news vans!
Now he just needs a slick intro video...
