Dolphins LB Joey Porter Requests Trade

Super Bowl XLIV isn't the only media storm brewing in South Florida these days.

Miami Dolphins LB Joey Porter has created his own news in the last 24 hours. First, Porter said on the Jim Rome Show Monday that he wants to be traded:

"I don't get paid like a rotation guy," Porter said. "So I'm not ready to take that role.  I'm still a starter.  I can honestly say I won't come back to do that.  Why keep a guy there that you want to make a role player?"

Uh, Joey? Your trade demand likely won't get you off the team. The nearly $5 million in 2010 and $2 million in March is what will get you off the team.

Second, he prefers to land in California playing for the Chargers or 49ers -- both 3-4 defensive teams, his preference.

Both landing spots are problems. The Chargers have Shawne Merriman and last season's first round pick Larry English playing outside linebacker already. The 49ers on the other hand have no need for a 33 year old, mouthy linebacker because they finished third in the NFL in sacks last season.

Third, Porter revealed on Sporting News Radio he didn't talk to his head coach Tony Sparano for the final seven weeks of the season.

"The last seven, eight weeks was not fun for me," Porter said. "After the suspension, I had no fun. I’m sitting up there feeling like I’m an outcast on my own team."

"I’m a captain, but I’m not going to the captain meetings. He’s not meeting with me anymore. How do you come back?"

Prior to being benched with seven games remaining, Porter said he talked or texted with Sparano nearly everyday.

Look for Porter -- who is known for going public with his frustrations -- to continue expressing his discontent with the Dolphins. And look for Bill Parcells to not care one bit. Porter should be off the team before his $2 million bonus hits in the first week of March.
