Surveys show women less likely to forgive Michael Vick for his dog-fighting transgressions than men, whose outrage can be tempered by appreciation of his contributions on the football field. But Playgirl thinks there are enough ladies out there willing to not let animosity generated by animal cruelty get in the way of gawking at his physical form. Enough so that the magazine is willing to offer Vick a hefty PETA donation in his name for appearing in the altogether in their publication.
The embattled American footballer, arrested for animal abuse and dogfighting promotion in 2007, has been invited to pose for Playgirl in return for a $1 million donation to animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.A spokesman for Playgirl confirms to Life & Style magazine, "I sent the request to Michael Vick on Wednesday, but we haven’t heard back yet.
"I figured he paid back society for dog fighting, but what about the animals? This way he could donate a large sum to PETA and all he’d have to do is pose for the magazine! It's kind of a win-win situation!"
That's an appropriately sleazy way to go about getting someone to pose for you. Find a public figure who has done wrong, then in an attempt to make them do something you want offer to make a monetary donation to a charity associated with their crime . If the disgraced celebrity refuses, you're free to chide them for not being sufficiently penitent about their wrongdoing. I suppose that is a win-win.

I love how him giving money to PETA is the same as "paying back" the animals.
Who made PETA the spokesman and representative for all animals?
Give a million dollars to dog shelters would be more fitting.

Agreed, MSD. Of all the possible animal rights charities to give to, PETA should be among the last on their list. TheAnimalRescueSite . com, Petfinder . com, local no-kill animal shelters, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are all more worthy than that bunch of PETA loons.

i feel sorry for tileking, radatz, and rbdonovan, who all just read the headline and went out and bought a subscription so there would be no chance to miss the issue

Memo to Michael:
Remember that 72% of the subscribers to Playgirl are men. Talk about no win…….!

I am utterly ambivalent. This would not make me, a female football fan, suddenly admire Mike Vick. Nor would I castigate him for posing if he thought it was something he wanted to do.
Interestingly, Tony Gonzalez, a current Falcon, posed au naturel for a PETA ad with his wife. Both are animal lovers.

now c’mon. he paid his debt. he hardly deserves to be castigrated for it now.

Thats hallarious. Gay dudes all over the country cracking there whip to Micheal Vick. They love em in Hot lanta. No way Vick will do it. His ego is huge he might. He’s not smart enough to know that most of the subscribers are gay men.

Mike,This proposal by Playgirl raises an interesting point that athletes whose actions land them in trouble with the public (and in this case, the law as well), the most difficult demographic to win back seems to be women. I don’t think that this trend can simply be attributed to the fact that sports are dominated by men either – when Serena Williams imploded at the U.S. Open this past year, I doubt that the few men who watch women’s tennis in the first place were turned off by the incident. If anything, it probably had the opposite effect. Obviously with the Tiger Woods scenario, it feels like men are rooting for Tiger to get back out on the golf course ASAP, while women would prefer him to remedy his situation at home while paying the price for his actions. Vick’s done his fair share of anti-animal abuse lectures since he was released from jail, but is there really a need for him to improve his standing within the female demographic for him to return to semi-normalcy as an NFL player? With one season under his belt since being released, it seems that demographic hardly impacts how he will fare in the overall opinion of the public. If I were to play the role of Vick’s agent in this scenario, I’d advise him against posing in Playgirl mainly because of the magazine’s less-than-upstanding reputation. There are better ways to raise money for PETA and win over the public’s adoration. Host various animal sales at SPCAs around the country or something. I feel like the majority of Vick’s followers (fans, haters and those indifferent) mainly just wanted to see him playing as he used to. If they saw that Vick had overcome his adversity enough to succeed on the gridiron with no signs of a relapse, they could be happy for him. If Woods can do the same, I believe that will be the best way for him to return to normalcy. Go out and destroy the rest of the field, sink a bunch of holes-in-one, gain acceptance from enough PGA peers to not look like an outcast and make sure Elin (assuming she comes back) becomes the Vanessa Bryant of golf. Easy enough, right?

C’mon Vick, one stupid act is enough. PETA is just a euphemistic society for misanthropes.
