That headline is just so damn American. WOO!
It was only a matter of time before someone started offering odds on 40-times and bench presses. And yeah, it definitely adds to the creepiness of the whole thing, adding even more moral ambiguity to a spectacle that already revolves around grown men oogling college kids in tight underwear. But taken in a different light... How is it different than betting on normal sports? It's all just betting on random skills. The only surprise is that it took this long, and that, sadly, there's no prop bet involving Terrence Cody's man boobs.
Anyway, without further ado... a few of the props being offered for the 2010 NFL Combine, courtesy of Sportsbook.com:
Who Will Run The Faster 40 Yard Dash?
Colt McCoy (-125) or Tim Tebow (-105)
Over/Under for Gerald McCoy's 40 Yard Dash Time?
Over/Under 5.02 seconds (-115)
Best 40 Yard Dash Time by Any Player at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine
Over/Under 4.31 seconds (-115)
Player to Record More Bench Presses at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine
Dan Williams (-120) or Terrence Cody (-110)
Most Bench Presses by Any Player at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine
Over/Under 38.5 (-115)
Highest Vertical Jump by Any Player at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine (Inches)
Over 42.5 (even), Under 42.5 (-115)
Psh... And you thought it was a sign of the apocalypse when the NFL Network began broadcasting the combine live. America!
