When you think of Ole Miss, do you think of obscure Star Wars characters? Well, you might soon. And no, this is not a trap.
In an effort to rebrand itself after ditching Colonel Reb in 2003, Ole Miss had its students vote on who they want as their next mascot. The early leader in the clubhouse? A certain Mon Calamari leader of the Rebel Alliance famous for his power of observation.
Fans at SB Nation's Red Cup Rebellion have already championed Admiral Ackbar's candidacy. It's a pretty airtight case:
If you believe that the Rebels can repel firepower of any magnitude; if you believe that it is I that is best equipped to spot the traps set by our enemies; and if you believe that an Admiral is better than a colonel any day of the week, then it's time to spread the word.
Hopefully this will open the door for other minor Star Wars characters to potentially become mascots. If Duke ever tires of the Blue Devils may I suggest Salacious Crumb?

um….in his only performance of the star wars series, akbar ran face first into the trap set by the emporer.
it is important that he won the battle. but that was because of ewoks. EWOKS.
