The last time Kevin Durant scored less than 25 points in an NBA game, we were scrambling to get started on Christmas shopping, and Gilbert Arenas was getting ready to play an elaborate practical joke involving firearms. It was Decemeber 19th, and Durant finished with just 13 points against the Houston Rockets.
Since then, the Durantula has been killing foes on a nightly basis, hitting for at least 25 points in 29 straight games, during which Oklahoma City went 20-9. If that sounds like some abstract statistic, consider: the only other person to accomplish that feat was Michael Jordan, who did it twice for 40 games straight.
Other than MJ, Durant's as good as it gets.
And arghh! He was so close to continuing the streak last night. Durant had 17 points in the first half, only to be limited to just four points in the second, finishing with 21 as the Thunder sputtered to a loss at San Antonio. So it seems that Durantula's partly human.
Or, technically speaking, a 21-year old human that's already placed himself alongside the greatest player of all time. How is that possible? He's science's deadliest accident!
