Jarvis Varnado Is The Most Shot-Blockinest Shot-Blocker In NCAA History

Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado quietly set a major NCAA basketball record last night by recording his 536th career blocked shot. Well, "quietly," in that no one seems to really care, as Chris Littmann points out. The record-breaking feat itself was done quite authoritatively, as Vernado blocked eight shots last night in front of the home crowd:

While Varnado is the all-time blocks king, his 4.03 blocks per game still pale in comparison to some of the all-time greats. According to the newly launched and totally awesome college basketball reference site, he currently ranks 10th all-time in blocks/game, behind the likes of David Robinson, Emeka Okafor and Hasheem Thabeet.

Regardless, it's a noteworthy accomplishment to break the all-time mark (previously held by Louisiana-Monroe’s Wojciech Mydra), and an achievement reached only by staying in school for four-years ... another noteworthy accomplishment for a future NBAer.

Much more on Varnado's big night over at our Mississippi State site, For Whom The Cowbell Tolls.
