Jarvis Varnado Swats Away Blocked Shots Record with Relative Anonymity

Just following up on Wednesday's post, Mississippi State's Jarvis Varnado did break the NCAA blocked shots record against Alabama. The record-setting 536th block can be seen in the video below, courtesy of The Bama Blog.

What's incredible to me is that today, no one seems to care that it happened. Varnado blocked eight shots to assure that he got it done at The Hump in front of a home crowd, and it's buried in the final minute of ESPNEWS' 30-minute cycle, getting a paltry 45-second segment.

Varnado plays for a team that will probably find its way into the tournament. By all accounts, he seems like not only a great player, but a good guy from all the things I've read. He even gave up his scholarship before the season so they could add another player. It's a shame his accomplishment can't get a little more pub, because it really deserves it. (For more on the game, check out the AP recap.)

Guess the media outside of Mississippi has no love for MSU…

Sad thing is JV is the most humble guy who gave up his scholarship so another player could pontentially play… And would make a great story…

Glad SportingNews things an NCAA record being broken is news worthy… Thanks for posting this…
