Over at Fanhouse, Bethlehem Shoals has a great interview with Rick Telander, author of one of the best basketball books ever written.
“Heaven is a Playground” may not be rooted in the NBA or any sort of basketball analysis, but in telling the stories of James “Fly” Williams, Albert King, and the Brownsville neighborhood that bred a slew of stars over the years—and many more that never made it out—Telander captures the spirit of it all with a pitch perfect tone. With a combination of great characters and excellent storytelling, Heaven conjures the ineffable aspects of basketball that have made the game so meaningful to so many, for so long.
If you haven’t read it and you like basketball, you should really buy the book. In the meantime, check out the interview with Telander.
