New Giants Stadium Possibly to Host First Outdoor Cold Weather Super Bowl

New Giants Stadium

↵Citing budgetary concerns pertaining to security cost of the event, the Arizona Host Committee removed itself from contention for Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, leaving as the remaining bidders the two previous host cities Miami and Tampa, as well as an intriguing third option, a would-be first-time host in New York.

↵A New York bid would make sense. As a market as conducive to media events, the amount of grousing about cold weather would be less than a Super Bowl in other markets where wintry effects would likely be evident. The game being held in a premier media market would also offset some of the high profile attendees from begging off because of the weather. In fact, there are those who are saying that the Big Apple is the clubhouse favorite to earn the bid at the moment.

↵Football purists would certainly hail the choice as a boon to smashmouth Northern teams, who have long thrived in the postseason by toughing out severe conditions, only to see meet more mild ones in the title game. And others might be curious of the novelty of Super Bowl in a could weather city not tempered by a dome. And no matter what, the New York media-industrial complex won't bash their own backyard.
