A key bubble battle between Maryland and Virginia Tech was supposed to tip off in Blacksburg at 4 p.m. Eastern. but thanks to a water main break near Cassell Coliseum, the start time is now 6:30 p.m.
But this wasn't the typical explosion of an aging pipe. On no. The Twitter account of Patrick Stevens, author of the D1scourse blog, gives us the far more interesting reason.
Beer truck hit fire hydrant. Hilarity ensued.
I hope the professionals responsible for fixing the mess remembered to bring chips and pretzels for the post-repair celebration, provided the beer truck wasn't towed away.
In terms of the game, TV coverage is a big question, thanks to the two and a half hour schedule shift. Raycom, who owns the rights, plans on airing the game on its website, but their local affiliates' decisions will vary. ESPN360 and Full Court were also slated to show the game and that shouldn't change, since they don't have to worry about pre-empting yet another That 70s Show rerun.
