Great news for Canada: the United States hockey team has their plane tickets out of Vancouver scheduled for tomorrow morning. Tomorrow would also be the day of their gold medal game against Canada. Sure, they could technically reschedule the flight, but that would be too much work; I mean, who wants to deal with airlines these days?
As for the scheduling happened, Puck Daddy has an interesting interpretation of the NHLPA's decision-making:
The flights were booked using pre-Olympic International Ice Hockey Federation rankings as a predictor, which had Team USA fifth behind Russia, Canada, Sweden and Finland. The NHLPA said the flights were booked just to establish a time of departure that could then be changed depending on how the team fared; so don't read it as a lack of confidence in GM Brian Burke's team.
That is the literal definition of a lack of confidence.

About time the Networks woke up to the fact that there are many Paralympians that are ex services and thus deserve the support of their nation as they start a new career representing their nation!
