Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Ben Hansbrough scored 21 points and Tim Abromaitis added 19, as Notre Dame beat its second ranked opponent this week with a 78-64 victory over No. 11 Georgetown at the Verizon Center.
Carleton Scott contributed a career-high 17 points with nine rebounds for the Fighting Irish (19-10, 8-8 Big East), who stopped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 68-53 home win over 12th-ranked Pittsburgh. Notre Dame will have a chance to further enhance its NCAA Tournament resume with games next week against Connecticut and Marquette before the Big East Tournament.
Greg Monroe scored 15 points for Georgetown (19-8, 9-7), which has lost three of its last four. The Hoyas have also dropped three of their last four home games and next week visit West Virginia before closing out the regular season at home against Cincinnati.
The game started without each team's top two scorers. Notre Dame's Luke Harangody missed his fourth straight game because of a bruised right knee, while Georgetown's Austin Freeman was on the bench with a virus. Freeman, who averages a team-best 17.5 points, wound up playing just 23 minutes and scored only five points, ending a streak of 20 straight double-figure games.
