NASCAR events at Pocono Raceway have never been particularly compelling viewing, but the race there last June was apparently must-see TV for one man.
The Associated Press reported that 67-year-old Dennis Zeglin of New Jersey allegedly shot and killed his pet parrot (named "Mikey") because it was screeching while he tried to watch the Pocono 500 on TV.
It's unclear whether the parrot was simply trying to mimic TNT's Bill Weber, but either way, it met an untimely end when Zeglin apparently shot the bird three times with a BB gun.
This is just another reason Pocono should not be on the NASCAR schedule: Not only are the races there too long, but they make people do crazy things.
Zeglin was indicted on animal cruelty charges yesterday and faces up to five years in prison. For the complete story, click here.

Haha wrong!
The vibe I get from this situation is, even drunk the NJ guy was SO INTO the Pocono (home) race he couldn’t bear any interruption! Sorry about the poor parrot and yes the guy deserves criminal conviction but LMAO! good thing wife was quiet! gotta catch commentators’ every word when cars charge into “The Tunnel Turn”!!
PS I’m gonna counter every slam against Pocono. It belongs. I’m Philly born and that was my home track as a kid, I still love it, love the owners and races there ARE NOT BORING! LOL

Surprised ASPCA isn’t involved. After all the animals that get hit by the race cars and now this. This track is obviously a danger to animals! A reason for NASCAR not to race there anymore… think of the animals it would save if they dropped a race?
