Heavyweights Mike Russow and Todd Duffee will meet at UFC 114 in Las Vegas, Caged In learned on Tuesday.
The UFC newcomers, both 1-0 in the promotion after wins on the same UFC 102 card in Portland in August, have verbally agreed to the bout, though agreements have not yet been signed. The news comes from a source close to Russow’s camp.
- The Times of Northwest Indiana's Caged In blog reports on this heavyweight fight.
This is a battle of two heavyweights who have a lot to prove. Russow's career has mostly been made up of beating less than tough competition on the local scene while Duffee has gotten a lot of hype for very little UFC work.
It only took Duffee seven seconds to stop Tim Hague in his UFC debut, a fight that has many calling Duffee the future of the division. However, seven seconds is not enough time to prove much about a fighter beyond "he can knock you out."
Russow on the other hand has a 12-1 record which looks like this:
FIGHTER = CAREER RECORD
Justin McCully = 10-5-2
Braden Bice = 7-9
Jason Guida = 18-21
Roman Zentsov = 18-13
Steve Campbell = 1-1
Pat Harmon = 8-8
Demian Decorah = 26-32-1
Sergei Kharitonov = 16-4 (loss)
Steve Conkel = 13-5
Chris Harrison = 5-4
Brandon Quigley = 10-32-1
Nate Schroeder = 10-10
Since his first career loss Russow has only beat two fighters with records over .500, so one shouldn't be willing to claim his place as a contender in the UFC.
Either way, one man will prove something about himself at UFC 114.
