Sometimes, it's important for all of us to take a step back and remember all the different things sports can do for us. Sure, they're not as important as politics or any of our other everyday essentials, but they have an incredible way of bringing people together and giving us experiences we'll never forget.
In that light, I present to you the story of David Menéndez Arán, better known as LatinD on SB Nation's Spurs blog Pounding the Rock. Arán, a native of Argentina has made a name for himself as one of the premier Spurs bloggers on the Internet, getting up at ungodly hours to make sure he never misses a game. However, he had never set foot in the United States.
That is, until now. Arán has been on a basketball pilgrimage of sorts, traveling to see the Spurs as they embark on their annual Rodeo trip. At each stop, he's been staying with members of the Pounding the Rock community, and the Spurs themselves even found him housing in San Antonio when the Spurs were still home. The Spurs also allowed him access to the players, which allowed Arán to meet and speak to his idol, Manu Ginobili.
It's an experience Arán never could have had if he wasn't a Spurs fan that found a place on the Internet to connect with other Spurs fans. That's the power sports can have.
To read more about Arán's journey, check out recaps of Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 and Day 5 of his trip.
