Alexander Ovechkin was playing in his 373rd career game and already had a goal and an assist on the night when he broke out this play at the end of the second period:
Ovechkin's one-handed goal from Wash Post Sports on Vimeo.
As Dan Steinberg mentions, this goal was key for a couple reasons. The largest of them all was this:
And having preserved the Caps' chances in this game, and preserved their hopes of extending their record win streak, and done so with one hand having nut-megged a defenseman, it then turned out that Ovechkin had incidentally recorded the 500th point of his career with that goal. Getting there in 373 games makes Ovi the fastest to 500 since Eric Lindros, and just the ninth player to hit 500 through five seasons in NHL history.
With 500 points and 373 games under his belt, Ovechkin still continues to amaze us with one highlight reel goal after another.
