Super Bowl XLIV And Sanctimonious Introductions

Do you have a problem when NFL players include the college they attended in those little prerecorded intros? Probably not, right? Especially when they show actual enthusiasm and school pride, boasting, "The U," "THE Ohio State University" or "Rand University." But it's no fun for Bob Katz, who thinks it is high time these frauds come clean during their promos and give their honest college resumes.

When a player has actually earned his degree, state it: "a graduate of." If a player has only partially fulfilled the requirements for a diploma, spell it out as one would on any honest résumé. If the amount of completed course work was too slight to mention, say nothing.

Those invested in the myth of college football as an emblem of virtuous competition will scoff at this suggestion. It's just nit-picking, they'll contend. No harm, no foul.

But no mention of their extracurricular activities? Then how will we know which free safety was also a key member of the Mathletes club?
