A Super Bowl win for the Colts would have strengthened Peyton Manning's case for being the greatest quarterback of all time. But Tracy Porter's interception return for a touchdown doomed Indianapolis and reminded everyone of Manning's mediocre big-game record.
Drew Brees, meanwhile, took MVP honors, capping his rise from lightly recruited high school quarterback to Super Bowl champion.

I don’t think Manning played a bad game by any means, but he did not play that great either, and that is what he needed to be on this day. He got no help from Reggie Wayne, but that is another story. Manning is only 9-9 overall in the post season, so he is not the greatest QB of all time. I think he is in the top 10, but so are nine other QB’s.

peyton manning is a gutless transvestite who choked in high school (no state titles)…choked in college (tee martin anyone?)…and oh baby, saved the nastiest pamper onslaught for the super bowl. thanks peyton…your continued sacklessness makes me, and real football fans happy. you’re ongoing wimpiness…and lack of class (shake brees’ hand dammit)…you are the best pal. no one can defend you anymore peyton…you are a gutless whiny loser…now everyone knows it !!!

well it is a good thing he’s won one, otherwise that monkey would still be on his back. he’d still be the greatest qb never to have won any championship at any level.

I think Freek has it about right.

Manning played better than he did in the SB win over the Bears, actually.
I think the David/Goliath story is way overplayed. Both were #1 seeds, both had dominant seasons. The Colts had the edge in pre-game picks, but it’s not like this is Appalachian State at Michigan or something.

That video doesn’t make sense. Maybe if it had been Flacco or even go as far as Jeff Garcia or some thing then it is. That is just taking away from the talent Brees has. He isn’t on the same level as Manning but he isn’t the David to his Goliath.

goliath was a man…and had a penis. this automatically boots peyton from consideration.

this just in…peyton manning is the biggest fraud in american sports…and turkish sports too….because, as you all know…wesley snipes and the turkish hate peyton manning.

yeah, hardly david vs goliath. that is stupid. I for one have been telling people that the saints were the best team in the nfl since may for god’s sake. so maybe i am plain lucky, but this team was threatening to go undefeated most of the season just like the colts were, and probably would have if they didnt have w21 guys hurt at one point.

Despite Colston’s early drop Brees had more support than Manning, both from his players and from the bench. Wayne wasn’t the factor he needed to be, and neither was Freeney late in the game after his ankle swelled. Caldwell seemed to be no factor, especially in modifying his defensive tactics as Freeney faded.
Increasingly, pass rush intensity wins games as the league moves closer to a pass-only arena/dome/carpet format. I loved the bombs-away AFL, but this is getting ridiculous.

Man you guys get offened to easily-
Do you NOT get the literal reference too? Brees 6 ft and originally said by many not tall enough to play QB- Manning 6 ft 5 in prototypical QB…
Sheesh! You think you never watched a game of football before!!

Guys, quit ragging on Manning. He’s one of the greatest QBs in NFL history, but it’s a team sport. Brees didn’t beat Manning, or make him look bad. The Saints defense really shined, and the way they mixed it up with their alignments in the second half was genius.
Saying a QB is something less because he hasn’t won every championship is ridiculous. Again, it’s a team sport.
lordhlatts, you need professional help. Your obsession with Manning and his penis is a little scary.
