It's that time of year again, sports fans... the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is upon us.
Back in college, I took a class called "Gender Roles in Society" that could have been boiled down to simply, "Feminism: We Like It." I took it by mistake, and I was one of two guys in a 33-person class. At one point, as part of an assignment, I had to defend the Swimsuit Issue against charges of sexism and perpetuating gender stereotypes. And, well, that sucked.
It's tough to defend the merits of all the hype, at least in front of a bunch of rabid feminists. But then, how can anyone argue against this?
That would be the stunning Brooklyn Decker, star of this year's Swimsuit Issue, which hits newsstands today. And with a name like Brooklyn, you'd have to think she was born to be a supermodel. Either that, or a stripper in a dilapidated New York City strip club.
One person who's thrilled with SI's choice? Decker's husband, Andy Roddick. As he tweeted:
so happy/proud of my wife... the new cover for sports illustrated swimsuit issue!!!! unreal... so excited!!!!!!!!!!
And yes, we'd like to make fun of how many exclamation points he used there. No male should ever use more than one exclamation point. But... He's married to Brooklyn Decker!!!! And that makes his life better than ours.
