Astros first baseman Lance Berkman's left knee, which had previously been diagnosed as "bruised," will require surgery that could sideline him for Opening Day, according to Brian McTaggart.
Berkman injured the knee early in camp, but had been attempting to play through it, appearing in five Grapefruit League contests. However, the knee remained swollen even after having fluid drained from it multiple times.
The surgery, which will be performed sometime in the coming days, will remove some loose particles from Berkman's knee and is expected to keep him sidelined for 2-4 weeks.
